When you're ready to give recognition, this article will guide you through giving a recognition message. You can send a recognition message in the form of an appreciation message (Thank You) for the day-to-day moments that make you smile, or a performance recognition message (Good Job, Impressive or Exceptional) for the big results and achievements. You'll be recognizing great work in no time!
If your organization uses points, it's important to remember you can always send recognition messages, even if you run out of points to give.
You can use the tabs below to learn how to send recognition messages on the web and on the Kudos® mobile app:
To send a recognition message, click on Recognize at the top of the Home or Me Page, or by using the Give Recognition button. Both options are shown below:
Type your colleague's name in the To field and it will auto-populate with possible recipients. Select the correct name by clicking on it. You can add multiple people to this field if you want to recognize more than one person in the same recognition message, or you can type the names of a group, department, or location to recognize an entire team. You can send messages to everyone in the organization by typing All.
If your organization has external recognition turned on, you can send a message to an external address by typing the email address. Please note that external recipients will not receive any points.
Next, select the level of recognition you’d like to give (TY: Thank You 5 pts, GJ: Good Job 10 pts, IM: Impressive 20 pts, EX: Exceptional 50 pts). The Give Bar displays escalating levels of recognition, from appreciation moments (Thank You) to performance-oriented moments (Good Job, Impressive, or Exceptional).
If your organization uses points, it's important to remember that you can always send recognition messages, even if you are out of Points to Give.
Now it's time to write your recognition message to your recipients! Make sure it describes the action you’re recognizing and how it impacted you or the business. With an allowance of up to 1000 characters, feel free to be creative!
You can use hashtags in your recognition messages by typing the "#" symbol. Hashtags that have already been used in your organization will auto-populate, or you can create a new hashtag by sending one in your message! To ensure your hashtag works, be sure your hashtag does not include any special characters or spaces.
You can tag users by typing an "@" symbol before their name (ex: @Dillon) and then selecting the user from the pop-up. This can be useful if you want to mention other users in a recognition message.
You can further personalize your message by adding Emojis, Attachments, Stickers, and GIFs.
Depending on your organization's settings, you may not have the ability to add Attachments, Stickers or GIFs.
- Attachments: You can attach up to 10 files from your computer to your recognition messages, such as a picture or a document (Max of 150MB total), by clicking the paper-clip icon. You can also include a video approximately 5-minutes in length. You can use attachments as a way to enhance your recognition message.
- Stickers: Click Add a Sticker and select a sticker to personalize your message. You can add as many stickers as you'd like, but they must be selected one at a time.
- GIFS: If your organization has GIFs enabled, you can add GIFs to your recognition message by clicking the GIF button. GIFs are provided through Giphy and are all rated G.
Next, select qualities that support the recognition message. Be sure to select qualities that support the behaviours you described in your recognition message! These Qualities will be set by your organization to allow you to tie your recognition message back to your organization's values. You must select at least one quality before you can send a recognition message.
You can keep your message Public so it appears on the Kudos® Wall, or you can make it Private so that it can only be viewed by the receiver and the sender.
By default, messages are sent as Public. More information on Private Messages can be found here: Private and Public Messages
Depending on your organization's setting, you may not have the ability to send a Private message.
When you're ready, click Send!
The recipients will immediately receive an email notifying them of your message. If your message was Public, everyone will be able to view and comment on the message as soon as it's sent.
If you start preparing a recognition message and decide you need to finish your message at a later time, you can click the exit button on the Give Form and come back later to send your message! The Recognize button will have a red dot to indicate that you have a message to finish:
Our mobile app can be found in the App Store on your device; for quick reference, the iPhone app can be found here, and the Android app can be found here.
